Reflections on a French Experience

Liuba Miranosava ’20 is a junior accounting major. After graduation, she intends to get her CPA and work as a public accountant. Liuba had the opportunity to study abroad and selected Strasbourg, France as her home away from home, because of the unique opportunities to attend a French university and live with a host family.

As Liuba’s time in France came to an end, she reflected on the experiences which meant the most to her. She found most of these experiences were small details, such as eating a fresh baguette with jam every morning for breakfast and speaking with her host parents at dinner. She also valued what she learned from being abroad, including that mistakes are inevitable, not to take herself to seriously, and many lessons about accepting herself.

Since Liuba studied abroad in the fall, she had the opportunity to experience Strasbourg decorated for Christmas. Liuba and friends had the chance to visit the Christmas markets and view the artisans’ products were selling. For Liuba, it felt like walking through a children’s storybook.

In France, Liuba’s days were ups and downs of emotions, but she feels as though her time in France went by too quickly. She is thankful for what she has learned abroad and thinks the day she left Strasbourg will be the most nostalgic day of her life.
